About

Diane Hale

My professional career has been in banking, mostly in commercial credit and risk management. That sounds like a long way from novel writing, but as is often the case in our lives, one seemingly unrelated role equips us for our future. Researching and writing became an increasingly prominent part of my responsibilities. In those years, I learned to adapt my writing style to meet each specific audience’s needs and expectations, and now I’m bringing that into the world of fiction.

While I enjoyed my corporate career, I’ve known for a long time that novel writing is my calling, and finally I thought: if not now, when? So, I committed to finishing the story I knew I was meant to write.

I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and have a wonderful husband and son, as well as two cats that alternate between being, if not sweet, at least affable, and turning into savage destroyers of our furniture. Maybe we should have named them Jekyll and Hyde (wah hah hah). I want a dog.

What Inspires Me to Write?

I really enjoy the process of writing, and through my storytelling I want to be a part of drawing people closer to what Socrates and Plato called the good, the true, and the beautiful. Not that the characters I create have a simple life and easily find their way to a happy ending. That wouldn’t be good storytelling, and it wouldn’t reflect real life. It’s through the joys and the unwanted complications of life that we hopefully find our way to the right path. Haven’t we all heard stories from people who’ve gone through something terrible and later said they wouldn’t trade it for anything? Because ultimately, it led to something so much better than they could have imagined, and they’re better people after having gone through it.

Beyond the stories, I also think it’s such a marvel that in making a tangible book, it all starts with the intangible. Ideas. Isn’t that the coolest? We can make something from seemingly nothing.

If something in my stories touches your heart, makes you chuckle, or influences how you think about something for the better, that’s the win for me. That’s what inspires me to write.
